How Does Glassparency™ Work? 

Have you ever wondered why water beads up on a freshly waxed car? Or why oil and water don’t mix? The answer lies in the chemistry of water and oil.  

BAM! Let’s get a little science-y here. 

• Water is a polar molecule, which means that it has a positive and negative end.  
• Oil, however, is a nonpolar molecule, which means that the charges are evenly spread out. 

 

Because opposite charges attract, the positive end of the water molecule is drawn to the negative end of the oil molecule. The water molecules then form around the oil molecules to create a sphere. 

When there are enough water molecules around an oil molecule, it creates a barrier and becomes hydrophobic or water-repelling. Hydrophobic coatings use this principle to repel water and oil from surfaces. 

Glassparency™ takes it a step further and is engineered to react to the silica within the glass, creating a strong chemical bond. This bond forms a barrier on the surface of the glass that prevents water and other particles from sticking. The hydrophobic coating then creates a surface that is resistant to water, oil, dirt, and more!
